The A16 motorway travels back in time by connecting cities and towns with a rich historical heritage

Sanef accompanies you along the A16 from L’Isle-Adam in the region of Paris to Boulogne-sur-Mer.
The A16 motorway managed by Sanef crosses through two regions :

  • Île-de-France with the Val-d’Oise department
  • Hauts-de-France with Oise, Somme, Pas-de-Calais and Nord

Departing from the capital, you will be able to discover all the wonders offered by this high-speed route. Read on to find out more about the marvellous sites skirting alongside the A15.

Beauvais and its magnificent cathedral

The main city in the Oise department lies on the banks of the River Thérain, a tributary of the River Oise. Beauvais unveils its finery to A16 travellers who take exit 14 or 15. With extravagances of grandeur, the cathedral was built with the highest nave in France and the highest Gothic choir… in the whole world. Beauvais has other treasures, such as the MUDO – Oise Museum, a sublime, visitor-friendly art museum.

Amiens and its numerous tourist attractions

Exits 19 and 20 along the A16 lead to Amiens, on the River Somme. Here again, it will be difficult to miss its Gothic cathedral and medieval belfry. Museum enthusiasts will enjoy the Musée de Picardie, its works of art and ancient artefacts. Jules Verne fans will delight in visiting the author’s house, now a museum showing where the novel writer once lived. You will also be able to embark on a visit of Amiens’ floating gardens, a natural space right in the heart of the city.

Abbeville and Saint-Riquier abbey

On your journey along the A16 motorway, you will be able to stop at Abbeville by taking exit 22 or via the A16 and A28 interchange. The former capital of Le Ponthieu will provide you with an opportunity of getting some fresh air at its municipal park, La Bouvaque, or Emonville Gardens. Also, it’s just a short drive to Saint-Riquier for a visit of its abbey, which was founded in 625…

A relaxing sea breeze at Berck-sur-Mer: discover France’s Opal Coast !

Exit 25 will take you to the wonderfully relaxing seaside resort of Berck. to the south of the magnificent côte d’Opale. Every year, an international kite-flying meeting takes place on the main beach… to the great delight of onlookers.

Drive on to Touquet-Paris-Plage...

You’re nearly at the end of your journey, but we recommend you stop over at Touquet by taking exit 26 from the A16 motorway. At the mouth of the River Canche and looking out over the English Channel, the famous seaside resort has been given various nicknames: Paris by the sea, Arcachon of the North, the Channel’s Gardens, the Pearl of the Opal Coast, the resort for all seasons and even the Sporting Paradise…

then Neufchâtel-Hardelot, the nature walk just off exit 27

Exit 27 on the A16 motorway leads to Neufchâtel-Hardelot. Take the time to enjoy rambling on the grassy dunes of Mont Saint-Frieux with a splendid view of the Opal Coast. Just a stone’s throw from Neufchâtel-Hardelot, you will also discover Condette Marsh regional nature reserve… a revitalizing visit!

Boulogne-sur-Mer, the end of Sanef’s motorway

You’ve arrived! You can leave the section of the A16 managed by Sanef at Boulogne-sur-Mer at exits 28, 29 and 30. But that’s not the end of your journey as Boulogne-sur-Mer offers another type of trip with an array of cultural and historic adventures: Nausicaá Centre National de la Mer, the largest public aquarium in Europe, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, the Red lighthouse, the beach, and more besides.
