Your vehicle has broken down or crashed on the highway or you are witnessing an emergency situation: here is what to do!
What are the 6 instructions to follow in an emergency situation on the motorway?
Protect your life and the lives of your passengers if you need to stop on the hard shoulder:
- Turn on your vehicle's hazard warning lights.
- Put on your high-vis safety vest before exiting the vehicle.
- Exit your vehicle on the right (passenger side).
- Take cover behind the safety barrier and go to the nearest emergency call box.
- Call from an emergency call box connected to our services or contact Sanef Customer Service at +33 9 708 08 709 (toll-free call), selecting option #4 (Note: only if you are traveling on the Sanef or SAPN networks).
- Wait for the emergency response teams behind the guardrail.
Warning: do not use the warning triangle, as its placement exposes you to traffic and puts you in danger.

How does roadside assistance work on the motorway?
For breakdown assistance, you must contact us via an emergency call box or the SOS Motorway app. Only approved breakdown service providers are authorized to operate on the motorway. Breakdown assistance on the motorway requires specific approval for safety reasons related to the motorway environment (high vehicle speeds and heavy traffic), as well as to guarantee quality service and timely response times.
Breakdown and towing rates on the motorway are set by decree of the Ministry of the Economy and Finance. For passenger vehicles, these rates are regulated.
For your safety and that of your passengers, do not take unnecessary risks: do not attempt to repair or change a tire yourself on the motorway!
Check motorway breakdown assistance rates.
