Electronic toll collection
Electronic toll collection is a fast and efficient way to pass through toll plazas without having to stop for an extended period. With electronic toll collection, your vehicle is automatically detected, and payments are made without any direct intervention. Before using this lane, make sure you have a Liber-t tag displayed on your windshield. This will allow you to travel quickly at 30 km/h in the reserved lanes, or to stop briefly in the "stop & go" lanes.

What are the different types of tolls?
Not all tollbooths are the same!
"Open" toll plazas with fixed prices:
At some toll plazas, you pay a fixed, set amount each time you pass through; these are called "open" toll plazas. You don't need to take a ticket at the entrance or calculate the cost based on your route.
"Closed" toll plazas with tickets:
When you enter a highway with a "closed" toll plaza that requires a ticket, you must take a ticket at the entrance and pay for your journey based on the distance traveled at the exit. Make sure you don't lose your ticket before leaving the highway, as it is needed to calculate the exact amount to pay.
Free-Flow Tolling:
In 2024, the Sanef Group and SAPN introduced a new free-flow tolling system on the A13 and A14 motorways. With free-flow tolling, drivers no longer need to stop at a toll plaza along the motorway; they pay their toll later for a faster and simpler journey. This system reduces waiting times and improves traffic flow. It also allows for a more environmentally friendly journey by limiting stops and starts.
Several pay-as-you-go toll options are available to simplify your journeys.
Opt for an electronic toll collection subscription: your transponder, securely mounted on your windshield, will be detected each time you pass under a toll gantry, and your tolls will be automatically debited monthly.
Prefer online payment? Go to sanef.com and pay for your journeys within 72 hours of passing through, or create a customer account to automate everything by registering your license plate number and bank card.
If you don't want to pay online or prefer to pay in cash, no problem! Go to one of the authorized Nirio network sales points and pay your toll in person within 72 hours.
IMPORTANT: If you do not pay your self-flow tolls within 72 hours, you will have to pay a surcharge of €10 or even €90. This rule applies to all vehicles, including rental vehicles and vehicles registered outside of France.
How are motorway toll prices calculated?
The toll price changes every year on February 1st, in a manner strictly regulated by the government. The calculation mechanism is based on two main principles: inflation and planned investment projects agreed upon with the government.
Highway tolls are then calculated according to your vehicle category and, where applicable, the distance traveled between your entry and exit points on the highway. These fees allow highway concession companies to guarantee smooth, safe, and clean highways for drivers and to invest in their modernization.
